Information Management is an inter-disciplinary field of research. As such, it faces the challenge of having to integrate concepts and theories from different neighbour and parent disciplines such as Information Sciences, Computer Science, and Management Studies. Unfortunately, this integration is still in its early stages so that central terms such as “information technology”, “information system”, and “IT/IS infrastructure” are still used ambiguously.  Unfortunately, theory development is difficult if not impossible to achieve without a sound conceptual base. Hence, we are working on the development of a sound conceptual and theoretical basis in parallel to our more practice- and industry- oriented research to lay firm foundations for the development of Information Management as an academic field of study.
